Mulberry trees belong to the Morus genus in the Moraceae family, which also includes figs and breadfruit. The three most common species are white mulberry (Morus alba), red mulberry (Morus rubra), and black mulberry (Morus nigra). Each species differs in fruit flavor, leaf shape, and climate preference. Learning about their taxonomy helped me select a variety that matched my local weather and available garden space, making it easier to grow a healthy, productive tree with minimal problems.
